Photo Facial

The GentleMAX Photofacial targets sun damage, age spots and freckles by pulsing light based energy into the unwanted pigment. This causes the temperature of the unwanted melanin to rise which helps to break up the pigment.  Deeper level damaged blood vessels are treated similarly with a quick switch of settings.  Shortly after treatment, the pigment cells (or melanin) have been thoroughly fragmented - without damaging the surrounding tissue. Broken blood vessels also coagulate and shrink, many of them disappearing altogether.

In the weeks after treatment, the shattered melanin particles are eliminated by your body's own "clean up" system that absorbs the fragmented pigment. Little or no trace of the initial pigmentation spots or spidery veins remain. A GentleMAX Photofacial treatment also improves skin texture through collagen stimulation. You get multiple treatment benefits through one treatment.

Your skin damage is usually acquired over a number of years or decades. The process for returning your skin to a youthful and healthy appearance may take a bit of time. It is often the careful and continued slower combination of treatments that keep your skin looking its best.

Photo Facial treatments were developed to consistently and predictably improve the visible appearance of skin with little or no down time.  These types of treatments can be used over any areas of the body that present aged, photo damaged skin such as neck, chest, hands and arms.  Photo Facial treats a wide variety of skin conditions such as:

  • sun damage
  • broken capillaries
  • brown spots
  • age spots
  • sun-induced freckles on the hands, chest, and face
  • broken capillaries around the nose

A series of 3-5 treatments is recommended spaced approximately 3-4 weeks apart.

Immediately after the treatment, patients can expect a mild sunburn-like sensation, possibly accompanied by some minor swelling.  This usually lasts 2-24 hours, and can be soothed with ice packs.  As the treatments progress sunspots will start to fade and blood vessels will appear less visible.

Follow-Up Care

It is very important to avoid sun exposure for one week after treatments to reduce the chance of sunburn, darkening of the skin or lightening of the skin.  Use of gentle cleansers and a SPF 30 or higher is recommended during the entire course of treatment.
