Botox

Do the lines on your face reflect your character or your age?

Over the years, repeated squinting, frowning and normal facial expressions can lead to the development of frown lines, crow's feet, and horizontal forehead lines which can make you look perpetually angry or sad and can contribute to an aged appearance. The vertical lines between the brows, horizontal lines on the forehead and crow's feet around the eyes are the most popular areas for treatment with BOTOX®. However, smaller amounts of BOTOX® can be used in other areas for the treatment of smoker's or lipstick lines, bunny lines and in the chin to create a smoother, younger appearance.

What is BOTOX®?

Botox is one of the trade names for botulinum toxin, a prescription injectable FDA-approved to temporarily improve the appearance of facial frown lines. When injected into wrinkles, tiny amounts of BOTOX relax the surrounding muscles. This has the effect of smoothing the skin so that the wrinkles disappear. BOTOX selectively weakens tiny facial muscles by blocking the impulses that cause them to contract. This quieting of selected muscles allows overlying skin to remain smooth and unwrinkled, while untreated facial muscles contract in a normal fashion.

How long does BOTOX® last?

The longevity of BOTOX after a treatment is usually 3 to 6 months. Injections may be repeated as often as desired. With regimented injections, the effects of Botox are protracted in certain treatment areas. Therefore, there are fewer treatments needed to achieve the same result.

Why does the cost of BOTOX® vary so much between practices and physicians?

That is a complicated answer to a relatively simple question. BOTOX costs the same per vial to anyone with a license to purchase it, regardless of the quantities purchased. The difference in cost is determined by who is administering the injection or how much the vial is diluted. We dilute each vial with the recommended solution amount as directed by Allergan, the manufacturer of BOTOX®. In addition, we pride ourselves in having Dr. Powell administer all Botox and dermal filler injectables. Dr. Powell is a board certified dermatologist, trained specifically in cosmetic dermatology.

Please note, each person in unique in the specific number of units needed for their treatment. We charge for each unit of BOTOX. Our cost is $12.00 per unit. We believe this is the fairest approach for our patients because various factors of life play a role in the number customizable for each person. Typically, you can estimate 6 -10 units per eye area for the treatment of crow’s feet, 20 -30 units for the treatment of “11” lines and, 10 – 20 units for horizontal forehead lines. Smaller amounts for the treatment of upper lip lines and/or bunny scrunch lines are administered accordingly.

BOTOX® injections do not have to be a regular regimen for everyone. While most of our cosmetic patients are consistent with their treatments, others come in because of a special occasion! Consider a refreshed look for your birthday, a holiday party, family portraits, or even a class reunion. Botox makes it simple to be free from distracting frown lines or wrinkles, which may make you appear angry, feel tense, or act older than you are.
